I DID IT!

The half marathon in Nashville was awesome!  I ran the half in 2:52 and was really happy considering the heat and intense hills.

Thank you all for all of your support and donations to the Leukemia Society.  I can not begin to express how grateful I am and how many lives you all have touched!

I'm running in the rain, just running in the rain...

what a glorious feeling it was to run in the pouring rain this weekend!  You may think I'm being sarcastic, but it really was awesome.  Usually when it's raining you'll try your hardest to stay dry, but there is no greater feeling than being able to run through puddles and to soak through every layer you have on.

This past Saturday I ran 12 miles and I couldn't have been happier with the results.  I am battling a bruised ankle, which tends to start hurting around mile 10.  It's such a great feeling to view 6, 8, and even 10 miles as a short run and to become more comfortable with a 12 mile run.

We still have 6 weeks until the event, but I'm feeling great!  I have also reached my fundraising goal with all your support and am so grateful!  LLS is going to do amazing things with that money!

Pulled over by a cop!

Last night, February 17, I had a happy hour fundraiser with a couple of my team mates downtown DC.  We had a great time and raised $400 for LLS!  After a long day at work and an awesome happy hour, I hopped in my car and headed out of the parking garage.  Driving downtown DC isn't too bad, but finding highway 395 is...  After a few random turns and a drive pass the capital, flashing red and blue lights filled my rear view mirror.

As soon as I was pulled over I realized I never turned my headlights on... oops!  But I never looked down since I was looking for 395 signs.  I gave the cop my information, apologized for not turning my lights on and explained that I was heading home from a fundraiser.  He asked if I had been drinking, which I hadn't (amen) so I said no.  He asked what fundraiser and I went on to share about LLS and Team in Training.

The cop then shared with me that he lost his mother in law very quickly to a form of Lymphoma.

It was so sad to hear and once again shocked me to hear of another person who has lost a loved one to this cancer.  I was happy to not receive a ticket, but I was saddened to hear of the officer's loss.

Your donations help so many people--- and I know I am running for all those people who are battling blood cancer and am supporting those who have lost someone to Leukemia or Lymphoma.

Bake Sale Update

Yesterday was wonderful!  Neal and I arrived at the Giant Grocery Store a little after 12 and started raising money for Leukemia around 12:15.  I met some amazing people yesterday.  People are so incredibly generous and I was surprised how many people just wanted to donate and not take a cupcake.  We probably gave 150 cupcakes away with donations made and have about 30 cupcakes left.  I want to thank Erin, Liz, Mary, Elise and Leah for donating cupcakes.  I also want to thank Erin for donating her table and my mom for all the awesome valentine's goodies she sent me from Texas (bags, boxes, cupcake liners, etc)!  I had so much support from Neal, Liz, and Mary-- they made every minute of yesterdays bake sale a memory!

Together we raise $400 dollars!  Isn't that amazing!  I have now raised a little over $2000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Just a little over a month left to raise $1000...

Thank you again to everyone who helped and everyone who donated.

BAKE SALE

Today I will be holding a bake sale in Bethesda, MD to raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma!  There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but with a donation to LLS, you'll get a FREE CUPCAKE!

I will post more good news this evening!

Grandpa Joe and Elijah-- My Honored Team mates!

Each week I meet new honored team mates and learn of loved ones who have battled Leukemia....

The Strosnider family is like a second family to mine and Grandpa Joe is truly like a grandpa to me!  I knew that my Grandpa Joe had battled and passed away from cancer, but I had no idea he battled Lymphoma.  I am running for my Grandpa and for the Strosnider family!

I also learned this week that a couple who mentored me when I was a teen, the Compton family, were faced this past Christmas with their son's diagnosis of Leukemia.  Elijah is my team mate and I am honored to run for him and the Compton family!

Donations to the Leukemia and Lymphona Society make incredible impacts in the lives of family's like the Strosnider family and the Compton family.  As of today I have raised $1500 (50% of my goal) with your help and I can not thank you all enough!  I race April 26, 2010, that's a little over two months away.  Please help me raise a total of $3000 to give to the Leukemia and Lymphona Society through TEAM In Training.

I love you Grandpa Joe!
